Comprehensive Guide to Freelancing

March 15th, 2007 · 6 Comments

Over at North x East they’ve posted an excellent guide on the basics of freelancing. I’ve done some freelancing, but I have a lot to learn, and I will be using this post as a starting point. The article touches on a variety of topics including:

  • Branding
  • Finding Work
  • Pricing
  • Invoicing
  • Collecting

It even touches on expanding your freelancing business into a full fledged small business with multiple employees. I’m quite lacking in the quoting department. I need to work on a quote for a job right now actually, and I have no idea how to price it because it’s in a field that I’ve little experience with from a contracting standpoint. I’ll be digging into the suggestions presented to see if I can come up with some ideas.

The article is very well written and a great read. Check it out.

Although freelancing doesn’t call for much creative writing, it is very much worth a try if you have the time and are willing to tackle a variety of projects/jobs offered at the freelance boards.

After you get some experience under your belt, while working for others, you’ll have more leverage and can start being more selective along with getting out there and doing your own thing. Best of luck to ya…

More and more freelance jobs are emerging everyday, and you won’t run out of projects to work on. It’s better to gain more experience first then you can ask for higher pay rate after some time and after learning all the ropes, you may even start your own freelancing business.

To find out what quote would do better. Check what others are quoting, what experienced ones are placing and the newcomers. What is the normal rate? If the employer had hired for similar jobs before, what was the price? I guess with these info, you can make a quote that would land you the freelance job.

Freelance writing is an excellent way to make money online if you have basic writing skills or better. PPC revenue can be trying at times, and pay-for-job deals, sound like a great alternative.
One can also get a decent income from building galleries featuring bikini babes, exotic girls, glamour models, sexy celebrities, etc.
